Storm Drain Stenciling Events

What is storm drain stenciling?

Storm drain stenciling is a great way to raise awareness about stormwater pollution and get communities involved in environmental stewardship. Stenciling means you are labeling drains that lead directly into waterways as a warning for citizens not to pollute. Volunteers will use eco-friendly spray paint and a stencil to mark the storm drains. Plastic drain medallions, which are applied to the curb with glue, are also available. Volunteer groups may include neighborhood associations, school groups, church groups, etc. - anyone who has storm drains nearby.

Sweet Water will provide a toolkit with the following materials:

  • Instructions and safety guidelines

  • Liability waivers

  • Reflective vests

  • Work gloves

  • Stencils/medallions

  • Spray paint/medallion glue

  • Wire brushes (to clear debris)
