Sweet Water hosts and attends a variety of professional and community events in the Milwaukee River Basin to connect with stormwater professionals, local organizations, and educate the public about how to prevent stormwater pollution.
Clean Rivers, Clean Lake Conference
Each year, participants from nonprofit, government, business and academic organizations gather for the Clean Rivers, Clean Lake Conference to learn about improving the health of our watersheds through policy innovation, technical and engineering advances, watershed restoration planning and practices, and collaborative stakeholder involvement.
The conference includes oral and poster presentations, exhibits, an awards presentation for Sweet Water - Water Quality Mini-Grant Program recipients, and a celebration of our Watershed Champions.

Community Events Calendar
Sweet Water sets up a stormwater education booth at a variety of community events in the Milwaukee River Basin to educate residents about ways to prevent stormwater pollution.
We also distribute trees through the Big Plant program in partnership with Johnson’s Nursery and the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD). Please visit bigplant.org to learn more about the SE Wisconsin Big Plant tree gifting program.

Corporate Cleanup Events
Sweet Water’s Annual Clean-Up Collaboration began in 2017 in partnership with Molson Coors’ Annual “Our Beer Print Month”. In the spirit of collaborating for improved water quality, Sweet Water facilitates a day-long volunteer event in September for Molson Coors employees in a local municipality. This collaboration leverages a passion and drive that Molson Coors and municipalities share to see improvements in local communities and water quality in the Greater Milwaukee Watersheds.
Lake Michigan Day
Networking Events
In addition to our annual Clean Rivers, Clean Lake Conference, we host stormwater networking events throughout the year. These events are an excellent way to connect with other professionals in the stormwater field.
Lake Michigan Day was started in 2014 to highlight the importance of this great water body to the basin’s environment and economy. The Lake Michigan Stakeholders promotes this basin-wide event to highlight the special connections people have to this unique world treasure. Sweet Water works with the Lake Michigan Stakeholders group to facilitate an annual celebration of Lake Michigan Day.
Individuals, communities, businesses, tribes, First Nations, churches and other groups celebrate Lake Michigan Day each year on the second Friday in August. Each Lake Michigan Day, all residents who live, work, play, and worship around the lake can organize events in their communities or take action in their homes, at their places of employment or in community groups to help protect the treasure that is Lake Michigan.
