Why Install a Rain Barrel?
Rain barrels are an excellent way for homeowners to help prevent stormwater pollution in their own yards. When stormwater flows over impervious surfaces, it collects pollutants such as chemicals, oils, and trash. This water is then conveyed into public waterways via storm drains. Rain barrels collect and store stormwater, which helps reduce runoff and prevent pollutants from flowing into our rivers, lakes, and Lake Michigan.
Benefits of Rain Barrels
Rain barrels collect stormwater where it falls and therefore prevent it from picking up pollutants that can flow into local waterways
Stormwater collected in your rain barrel can be used to water your lawn and garden beds, potentially saving you money on your water bill
Rain barrels reduce the risk of backyard and basement flooding
